On our way to visit family in Eastern Europe, we had six hours between flights to explore Oslo, Norway. We only had about two hours in the city, but in that time we were able to see many things. What a great alternative that was to sitting in the airport for hours. We summarized our visit in pictures below of specific places we got to visit around this very sweet Scandinavian city.
Getting into Oslo – the Flytoget Train
First, we took the express train into Oslo from the airport (20 minutes). It is expensive but it is beautiful, clean and the ride is super smooth, pleasant, and fast. AND it has free and fast wi-fi!
We began our journey by walking to the Opera House which is by the Oslo Fjord.
Next we walked through the streets where we saw beautiful architecture and lovely squares on our way to Akershus Fortress (Акерсхус) which was built in the 1300’s.
We stopped in a small square to eat food from a food truck before continuing.
Right after we ate, we continued on our way to the fortress.
Next we went on to the area of town where important buildings and the royal palace are located.
After this we went to catch a train by the national theater back to the airport and headed onward with our journey to Subotica, Serbia (where my family is located)! We had a wonderful time in Norway, if you are taking a long flight somewhere I definitely recommend a layover somewhere to explore a new place!
